Saturday, May 10, 2008 Angeles City marks Flores de Mayo
ANGELES CITY -- In spite of the glare and blare of the demanding city life lies a moment wherein we can all relish the flowers blooming in May and bring back memories through our traditional Filipino May time festivity such as the Santacruzan.
In this fashion, the Angeles City Local Government thru the leadership of Mayor Francis "Blueboy" Nepomuceno in coordination with the City Tourism, City Information Office and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation is inviting everyone to witness the citywide Santacruzan dubbed "Flores de Angeles" on May 31, 2008 at 3:00 p.m.
The celebration will highlight Angeles City's rich cultural heritage and tourist destination that would showcase homegrown and talented youth who are elegantly attired for the occasion (sagalas) and colorful floats from different barangays. The parade will start at the Nepo Quadrangle and will culminate with a procession and Holy Mass.
The Santacruzan was introduced to the Philippines under Spanish rule.
It is a colorful celebration during the month of May to honor the Virgin Mary.
Traditionally, it is a way to give thanksgiving for the rains that begin to bless the land and cause the flowers to bloom and bountiful harvest.
Nepomuceno said "Flores De Angeles" is a good opportunity to again witness our enriching tradition with religious and social meaning and inculcate to our youth today the true essence of Santacruzan. (JCA/CIO)
