Rotary accepts Villa de Bacolor Charter
By Ian Ocampo Flora

MUCH is going on in Bacolor nowadays. Rising from the ashes of the ruins of Mt. Pinatubo, the once "Athens of Pampanga" has indeed made a remarkable leap. Now, it is no surprise that a new organization would rise from its elite and hopefully would usher in a new era of development and civic awareness.

After rigorous months of planning and organizing Rotary has accepted the chapter of Rotary Club of Villa de Bacolor as a formal club.

Rotary Club of Villa de Bacolor is composed of committed individuals. The club was formed to heed to the clamor for a civic organization that will contribute for the speedy recovery of Bacolor.

The charter presentation and induction ceremonies last Thursday at the King's Royal Hotel and Leisure Park was attended by club presidents and past presidents of various rotary clubs form the province and the region.

Sponsoring the young club is none other than the Rotary Club of Mabalacat that has been assisting the fledgling club from organizing to its eventual recognition.

Rotarian Bong San Pedro hosted the gathering.

Rotary wish to bring together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

The exclusive gathering was serenaded by performances from Folk Lors and accented with the powerful voice of Ms. Rosie Del Rosario Calma.

Presenting charter certificate to the RC Villa de Bacolor was the respected guest of honor District Governor Owens Torres who said that it was timely that a new club is set up in one of the province's oldest town. He likewise urged members to bring in more recruits to strengthen the line of the Rotary ideals and civic missions.

RC Villa de Bacolor officers and directors include Jesus R. Sama (Charter President), Sebastian Pagcu (VP/Pres-Elect), Grace Sama (Secretary), Noel Mercado (Tresurer), Lorraine Pena (Auditor), Jaime R. Sama (Sgt. At Arms), Voltaire San Pedro (PRO), Ananias Canlas Jr. (Director), Rimando Gozun (Director), Rene Laxa (Director) Jesus G. Sunga (Director), Enrique Baking (Director), Rodrigo Pangilinan (Director), and Arturo A. Manahan (Director).

The ceremonial charging and induction of the new members was presided by Torres and Past District Governor Benny Uy amid warm applause from fellow Rotarians. Eyes now are focused on RC of Villa de Bacolor with expectations that its members would live up to Rotary's best-known motto-- "Service above Self".
