GUAGUA - Unexploded vintage bombs were discovered by a resident of Barangay San Vicente Ebus here Thursday.
Noel Bituin accidentally unearthed 11 vintage bombs while he was removing the trunk of a Santol tree from a lot owned by one Victor Reyes, also a resident of the said barangay.
It was learned that Reyes commissioned Bituin to remove the trunk after its upper part was cut down for commercial purposes.
Bituin said he was in the process of removing old roots of the trunk when he saw a metal object protruding from the excavation. The metal was later discovered to be part of the metal casing of one of the vintage bombs suspected to be remnants from World War 2.
Recognizing the danger of the bomb, Bituin informed elements of the Guagua police station led by Superintendent Marcelo Dayag who responded to the scene along with the Anti- Terrorist Section and Bomb Disposal Unit from Camp Olivas located in the City of San Fernando.
The retrieval and recovery operation resulted in the discovery of 11 pieces of small vintage bombs.
Officials said that the bombs were artillery pieces that were "standard issue" during the Second World War.
Dayag advised residents here to be careful when excavating near the discovery area, as it is still uncertain if there are other vintage bombs buried in the place. He said residents should call proper authorities if they discover more bombs to avoid the possibility of explosion.
The bombs were turned over to the bomb disposal unit for safekeeping and proper disposition.
