Kapampangan artists stage exhibit for moms

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- A group of Kapampangan artists here has staged a one- week art exhibit as its celebration of Mother's Day at the SM City Pampanga Building 4.

The exhibit's formal opening last May 5 was attended by women Board Members Edna David and Catalina Bagasina, who both hailed the event as a way of showcasing Kapampangan talents and love for all mothers as shown in various artworks of Alaya masters.

The art exhibit titled "Ima" featured various member artists from the Alaya Chamber of the Arts, an organization of local artists from various art genres. The group is one of the pioneer art organizations that has been advocating for the propagation of Kapampangan Art in the local and national scene. Members of the chamber include visual artists as well as multi media artists.

According to Alaya president Herminigildo Pineda, the art exhibit is a timely occasion for Mother's Day celebration. "The exhibit ran from May 5 until 11 in time for Mother's Day. We try to blend our art with contemporary themes and so that we can also target the attention of locals," Pineda said, stressing that all the artists in the exhibit are ardent members of the movement for Kapampangan art.

Almost 30 artworks and photos lined the Building 4 exhibit area of the mall here. Participating artists include Andy Ramos, Yet Orquia, Joel Mallari, Alvin Dungca, Efren Erese, Rey Gatmaitan and Pineda who have been into past exhibits in Angeles City.

The event saw the participation of Photo du Monde, which showcased photos capturing essential aspects of motherhood and the importance of mothers in nation-building.

"This is a fitting tribute to all mothers this May. When they see the exhibit they are not just helping the local art scene they are also helping popularize Kapampangan art among their families," Pineda said. (IOF)
