Angeles City coach is outstanding referee in Palarong Pambansa

ANGELES CITY -- A multi-awarded coach from this city has recently been proclaimed as "most outstanding" referee for boxing by officials of the recently concluded Palarong Pambansa in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

Victor Policarpio, the coach of the Tacuyan brothers who bagged awards in the Southern Mindanao boxing bouts, was honored by fellow officials for exhibiting "familiarity and expert" judgment as referee in the field of boxing.

Policarpio was part of the 17,000 athletes, coaches and officials from 17 competing regions who assembled at the Palawan State University last week for the 2008 National Games.

He is very thankful for the support of the City Government here, especially the encouragement extended to individual athletes who represent this highly urbanized city.

Policarpio, a boxing official for five years, has also been a referee in big boxing bouts in the local and national scenes. He was able to officiate in the provincial games and in the Palarong Pambansa, as well as bouts and seminars in Singapore and other Asian countries.

He also serves as a barangay kagawad in Malabanias village here.

"I hope that the city would push more funding for sports development not just for players and athletes but also for people who plan to venture into officiating in games," he said. (IOF)
