Friday, May 16, 2008 Canlas hits Bondoc on housing project By Raymond C. Garcia
SAN SIMON -- "Maning (Bondoc) might be hallucinating," said San Simon Mayor Rodrigo Canlas as he lashed back at the reported opposition by some residents to the multimillion-peso housing project here.
Those who oppose the project are reportedly being backed by former mayor Manuel Bondoc.
Canlas said the housing project is not his project but of the Living for Christ Foundation and the National Government.
"The San Simon Municipal government only acts as mediator of the project," the mayor said.
He also said zoning is not an issue, adding that the factories erected along the area were not classified as "highly industrial" but only as light and medium industries.
When asked if the issue is politically motivated, Canlas immediately answered yes.
Meanwhile, the mayor said the people here had been very supportive of the housing project.
He appealed to his critics to just work hand in hand for the development of the town and of their constituents.
