Sunday, May 18, 2008 Capitol, traders ready location for schools in Minalin
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Pampanga Governor Eddie Panlilio, accompanied by Minalin Mayor Edgar Flores, recently visited his hometown (Minalin) to inspect the proposed site for the new school buildings to be erected at the San Francisco Elementary School in Barangay San Francisco in the town.
The present school compound is occupied by three elementary schools -- Sta. Catalina, San Francisco de Assisi, and San Francisco Javier -- which serve approximately 500 elementary school students from three villages.
Eddie Chua of the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FFCCCI), who also accompanied Panlilio during the visit, has requested Barangay San Francisco chairman Jaime Garcia to immediately start the demolition of the old and dilapidated structures to pave the way for the location where the new classrooms will be built. He said his foundation will initially construct a two-classroom school building in order to answer the immediate needs of the growing number of children who will enroll for the coming school year.
The construction of the school building is the initial step towards the full rehabilitation and upgrading of the school compound, which would eventually lead to the establishment of a Barangay High School in the town.
To date, the FFCCCI has already donated more than 150 school buildings in different municipalities of the province.
Flores, for his part, promised to cooperate in this endeavor by facilitating the development of the area.
The Provincial Government will soon start the concreting of the barangay road which leads to the school. Once finished, it will assure the safety of the children from dust during the summer months and from mud and flood during the rainy season. (IOF)
