Wednesday, June 25, 2008 Speak-out: School and the community
A SCHOOL is the most influential member of the community. All young and innocent minds are to be nourished through learning. A teacher, as a second parent, helps them in putting up noble ideas, facts, general knowledge and molding children to be a great citizen of this country.
What will happen if the community and the school don't have harmonious relationship?
Some people do not understand the school's status as a knowledge builder. Instead, they look at it as a monster grabbing only the best things they could get from school children.
In some cases, schools play negative role models to children because they throw embarrassing words to pupils. Others report to school unready to do their task, which contrasts the moral and ethical standards of teaching.
But the blame is not always on the part of the school. The community, which is a vital partner of the school, is sometimes becoming a hindrance for the growth of the school community.
We cannot deny the fact that some barangay officials are unmindful of the school activities.
Whereas, the dream of a better citizenry lies mainly from the molder of youth -- the school, working hand in hand with the community.
