Saturday, June 28, 2008 PICE lauded for holding mid-year convention
CLARK FREEPORT -- Clark Development Corporation (CDC) president Liberato Laus congratulated organizers of the "2008 National Midyear Convention of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers" held from June 26 to 28 at the Oxford Hotel inside Clark Freeport.
In his message, Laus said CDC is grateful to PICE officers and members headed by Willy Go, PICE national president; and to Ramon Aquino, PICE national 1st vice president and chairman of the Convention Bureau for choosing Clark as the site of their midyear conference.
According to Laus, the holding of the convention in Clark shows how important the freeport to national and international events because it showcase the vision of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as the next premier logistics hub, investment destination, and international gateway of the Philippines.
"For your information, CDC has come a long way in its efforts of providing the country an opportunity for a viable trade and investment link to Asia and the rest of the world through Clark where productive economic activities are mobilized," Laus said.
Laus was among the President's delegates during her state visit to the United States recently to sign a multibillion-dollar investment project here.
He hoped that more similar activities will be held in Clark in the future, now that the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) is open.
With the completion of SCTEX, the vision of President Arroyo to make Clark a world-class logistics hub will be realized as more investments -- local and foreign -- will locate here. Travel time from Clark to Subic via the expressway is only 45 minutes.
"Clark is a world-class logistics hub in Asia, the center for light manufacturing and services, a place to visit for leisure and entertainment as well as to provide the area with an exceptional infrastructure base," Laus stated.
Clark also hosted the two-day (June 25-26) RP-Hong Kong Air Consultation Talks at the Convention Hall at the Mimosa Leisure Estate. It is enjoying the reputation as a perfect travel destination, a progressive investment site, and tourists spot.
"We have world-class leisure and recreational facilities such as a 36-hole championship golf courses, residential villas, specialty shops and restaurants, duty free shops, parks, and casinos," Laus added.
