FORMER assemblyman and deputy minister of Public Works and Highways Aber Canlas died at noon last Friday at the Marikina Valley Medical City. He was 77.
A native of Floridablanca, Canlas was an alumnus of the Pampanga High School class 1955.
Canlas was known as the "action man" of the Marcos administration because he was able to complete ahead of schedule major infrastructure projects such as the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), Folk Arts Theater, Manila International Airport (MIA), LRT 1, Lung Center, Kidney Center, Heart Center, among others.
He had also served as acting administrator for the National Waterworks and Sewerage Administration (Nawasa).
He is survived by his wife Pilar, children Amelita, Rene, Luisito, Amanda, Leonides, Annie and Josephine; grandchildren Cesca, Erick, Mark, Cara, Quitos, Irish, CJ, Nica, Caylene, and Kevin.
His body lies at Premiere B Chapel, Loyola Memorial Park, Marikina City and will be interred at 12 noon, July 1, 2008, at the Loyola Memorial Park, Marikina City after the 10 a.m. Mass at the San Jose Manggagawa Parish, Chorillo Street, Barangka, Marikina City.
