Speak out: Viva Apung Iru!
By Eduardo V. Lugue

EVERY 29th day of June, the feast day of St. Peter the Apostle is being celebrated by most Filipinos who are devotees of the miraculous saint.

In the town of Apalit, Pampanga, their town fiesta is being celebrated in three days starting June 28, 29 and 30.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

Apalit town fiesta is considered as the grandest and the most fabulous celebration in the history of Pampanga and other neighboring provinces.

The novena masses started on June 19 and ends on June 27. Before the start of the first day novena mass, a procession was held and it was participated by the municipal and barangay officials, mandated organizations and the officials, teachers and students of private and public schools in Apalit.

During these days several activities were initiated by the Apalit Town Fiesta Committee 2008 headed by Mr. Jaime Tetangco, the chairman in cooperation with the municipal officials headed by the town Mayor Mr. Oscar Tetangco Jr. and the Parish Pastoral Council officers headed by Reverend Father Rolando Lopez.

Right after the procession a torch lighting ceremony followed as the opening of the celebration. Achbishop Paciano Aniceto and other invited priests officiated the first day novena.

Some of the activities highlighted were street dancing, amateur singing contest and the prestigious search for the Bb. and G. Apalit 2008 and many more.

On the 28th of June, Apalitenos will be welcoming the image of St. Peter through fluvial parade. On the 29th, the feast day, holy masses will be celebrated consecutively with some invited priest from different parishes, and then on the 30th day of June, the devotees of St. Peter will be returning his image back to his shrine at Capalangan, Apalit, Pampanga with the assistance of the Knights of St. Peter.

The Apalitenos are welcoming us with open hearts to join them in that joyous celebration for it's a sign of thanksgiving to the Lord and to St. Peter for their prosperous life. Viva Apung Iru!
