Bagasina donates computers to public schools

SASMUAN -- Board Member Catalina Bagasina on Wednesday donated desktop computers and school supplies to public elementary and high schools in various towns of Pampanga’s second district.

Bagasina sourced out the desktop computers from her friends at the Land Bank of the Philippines (LandBank) in Manila. She likewise promised to look for more sources "for the benefit of the Kapampangans."

"This is part of our public service,” Bagasina said, adding that the donation of computers and school materials is part of her birthday activities which she celebrated last June 28 and as a way of sharing her blessings to the people.

Among the school beneficiaries were the Siran Elementary School in Guagua, V. De Castro Elementary School in Sta. Rita, and Fortuna Elementary School and Basa High School in Floridablanca.

The board member also went to Floridablanca on her natal day and gave wedding rings as gifts to the newly-wed couples who took part in the municipality's Mass Wedding program. She complemented her celebration in the town with her feeding program for the poor and gift-giving to the people.

For the guitar-makers of Guagua, Bagasina released P200,000 from her own pockets in a loan program as an additional capital in propagating their trade that will benefit manufacturers of stringed instruments of Barangay San Antonio.

Bartolome Isip of Don Jon Guitars, who heads the guitar-makers of Guagua, said he was very happy and thankful for Bagasina's help to the struggling guitar industry of the town. "She (Bagasina) is the savior of the guitar industry of Pampanga,” he said.

Bagasina also announced that the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) has made purchase orders totaling 1,800 ukuleles from the guitar makers of that town to be distributed worldwide.

She wrapped-up her festivity with the opening of the Sasmuan Native Cuisine, her restaurant which serves and caters native delicacies and original Kapampangan foods.

Bagasina is the chairperson of the Provincial Board committees on education and trade and industry. (DL)
