By Reynaldo G. Navales

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- At least 28 families in Barangay San Agustin here benefited from the housing program of the Gawad Kalinga (GK) initiated by the religious community Couples for Christ (CFC).

Ricardo Miranda, a leader of the CFC, said beneficiaries received their authority to live in decent houses on a lot donated by the prominent Hizon family more than a year ago.

The GK site at Sitio Mangga in the barangay was made possible through the assistance of the United Parcel Services, Hizon family, local government, and CFC-Pampanga.

A memorandum of agreement was signed on Friday at the Landmark Building, Barangay Quebiawan, this city between the homeowners (beneficiaries), Gawad Kalinga volunteers headed by Nick Pineda (GK provincial head), Mogi Cabanza (CFC sector head), Wally Diwa (project director for GK Mangga), Benny Valerio (Sector GK coordinator), Jun Peh (barangay secretary of San Agustin), and Louie Clemente (administrator of the City of San Fernando).

Gawad Kalinga is determined to build 700,000 decent homes, in 7,000 peaceful communities in seven years (GK777) nationwide. As of today, there are 10 GK sites in the province. Another 12 villages will be established within the year, according to Miranda.

CFC Pampanga head Reynaldo Espiritu witnessed the turnover of the housing units to beneficiaries.
