Gueco: Heart of gratitude
By Malu T. Gueco
Aslagan

BUZZZ...buzz...buzz...my cell phone woke me up with a lightning jolt in the middle night. My, oh my, it was my best friend Sophiam

"Yeah, what's up Sophiam...my friend, why are you disturbing my sleep?" I replied. "I just came from the hospital." Her trembling voice asserted.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

"My blood sugar shot up....my heart pressure level kept roaring like lava from Mount Pinatubo cascading down the mountainside slope...I felt like dying...I vomited in uncontrollable spasms of pain..." Reflectively, Sophiam, continued her outpouring.

"Thank God, the doctors at the Philippine Heart Center were skilled physicians who snatched me away from the jaws of death. They stabilized my blood sugar level...inserted intravenous fluids on my right arm...took bedside x-rays to check on my liver/spleen/pancreas. After spending eight hours in the emergency room, I experienced relief and resuscitation of my energies."

"Whew! Mama Mia! Gracias to medicine, love of my caregiver and caring guidance of the doctors, thereto, I made it through the darkest night of June 29, 2008." Sophiam sighed with relief on the phone as she ended our midnight talk. In sum, she articulated this insight.

"Feeling like a NEWLY BORN PERSON, I raise my voice in praise of the sacred gift of life. Bursting forth with vitality, I cry out to the great Creator and majestic Goddess, 'Dacal pung salamat... thank you...Spasibo (Russian)...Danke(German).'"

July Beginnings

Yehey...Sophiam...How alive you truly are! Awakened by the treasure of vitality, inspired with the energy of strength and moved by the power of living, worthily, you now have a second chance in life.

Fulfill your loving journey on Mother Earth.

Like the July dawn colors of purple, golden orange and pink tints, you can splash your vibrant colors on the blank canvas of life as you feel the reenergizing force of our beating heart gushing forth with creativity.

Please find time to smell the burgundy roses, see the yellow beauty of the sun, which dazzle our Kapampangan landscape; yes, sense the breathtaking verdant/green terrain of Mount Arayat. Unleash vigor of artistry by picking up one or two colored pencils, one or two pastel colors, maybe, even open up your favorite tubes of acrylic paints to capture the rural scenery greeting your eyes as you travel through Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX). Zoom into the magical landscapes crisscrossing Clark, thereon, spreading out to the brown terrain of Pampanga.

July is just beginning.

Message

Vamos! Come, speaking of shapes, colors and structures, let us step into the wonderful world of the colors to fully appreciate the light, tints and shadows of our Universe.

Thereto, dear readers, we can find magic in the world of loving, kindness and compassion. Similar to the writers and artists who have plunged into the world of print media and visual arts media, always remember, you and I are part and parcel of this planet. Plunge into the pulsating red passions of loving, the wise orange hues of working and the sky blue tints forming the essence of calmness. Light up your minutes with the color harmony.

Dashing through the pathway of everyday living, we come face to face with challenges in the form of physical, emotional or spiritual crisis. Why, in a minute or two, you and I can undergo life-changing events. As we saw through the eyes of Sophiam, we can leave this world like a speeding train smashing the boundaries between life and death. So, be aware and awake always.

Today, rise in the Aslagan morning, sparkle with the noontime of success and rest in the affectionate twilight of achievement. Have a blessed and colorful time with your loved ones. Respecting their presence, constantly whisper to them these words, "Merci beaucoup (French)...Shukran(Arabic)...dacal a salamat."
