Bayan: Stop political bickerings in Pampanga

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-Gitnang Luson (Bayan-GL) has called on local officials "to stop political intramurals in the province and instead work hand in hand with the Provincial Governor to ease the economic sufferings of Pampanguenos."

The group said its call is in reaction to the recent move of the Pampanga Mayors League (PML) to recall Gov. Eddie Panlilio on the allegation that he had failed in his job after one year in office.

Bayan-GL cited the statement signed by 19 Pampanga mayors, who described in Pampanga as "hopeless" under Panlilio.

Roman Polintan, Bayan-GL chair, said that the recall move is "politically motivated and self-serving" and is "the least of the Kapampangan's concerns."

He stressed that what people of the province urgently need now is immediate relief from their economic sufferings in light of the alarming rise in prices of rice and other foodstuffs, fuel, electricity, school fees and other goods and services.

"We urge our local government officials to set aside self-interest and look over their shoulders to see and work for the interest of their constituencies," Polintan said.

Polintan said his group is appealing to the PML and the PB "to support Kapampangans' initiative towards good governance and against patronage politics, illegal gambling and corruption."
