7 towns recognized in Nutrition Month celebration

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Although failing to land a place in the Green Banner awards, seven municipal nutrition councils (MNC) were honored in the culminating celebration of the Nutrition Month at the Benigno Aquino Hall here.

Honored in the event last Friday were the MNCs of Candaba, Magalang, Sto.Tomas, Porac, Mexico, Arayat and Apalit.

The said municipalities were not able to make it to the Green Banner Awards but were lauded nonetheless for their outstanding participation in the implementation of their respective nutrition programs.

The Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC) was responsible for the selection of the said MNCs.

The PNC conducts yearly monitoring and evaluation of the local level nutrition program implementation (Mellpi) among municipalities in Pampanga.

The PNC Technical Working Group (TWG) members conducted the Mellpi from April 15 to May 23 this year.

Municipalities that do not have their Municipal Nutrition Action Plans were not included in the evaluation.

The TWG conducted re-orientation with the respective MNCs without nutrition plans.

The seven MNCs were given P5,000 each in an event attended by Governor Eddie Panlilio, Lucia Gutierrez of the PNC and Board Members Edna David, Johnny Quimbao, Nelson Calara.

Also present were the different MNCs of the various towns in the province.

The Green Banner awardees were also presented during the event and received their respective cash prizes revealed during the event. The first three rankings went to Guagua, Lubao and Sasmuan.

Each received P50,000, P30,000 and P15,000, respectively. This was followed by Mabalacat at the 4th place with P15,000 and Bacolor at 5th place with cash award of P10,500 pesos.

David, Provincial Board Committee on Health chairperson, urged the MNCs to strengthen their nutrition program not just during the observation of the Nutrition Month but all year round. (IOF)
