CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Floods and heavy rains caused by Typhoon Igme (international codename: Fung Wong) on Monday led to the suspension of afternoon classes in all public and private elementary and secondary schools in this capital city, Sta. Rita, Mabalacat, and Angeles City.
Assistant Education Regional Director Ricardo Sibug also ordered the suspension of classes in Masantol, Apalit, San Luis, Minalin, Mexico, Bacolor, Guagua, Macabebe, Sasmuan, Candaba, Sta. Ana, Sta. Rita, and Floridablanca due to bad weather.

In Guagua, Mayor Ricardo Rivera said classes in the collegiate level were cancelled as many streets in the town like Ascomo, Bancal, Jose Abad Santos, Lambac, Magsaysay, Maquiapo, Natividad, Plaza Burgos, Pulungmasle, Rizal, San Agustin, San Antonio, and San Isidro were impassable to light vehicles due to floods.
Several city and municipal officials, meanwhile, criticized the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the delay in the completion of the dredging of the Guagua River and the construction of the Pinatubo mitigation flood control projects that will solve the perennial floods in the towns of Sasmuan and Guagua during the rainy season.
