Saturday, August 02, 2008 Establishments asked to install CCTV By Reynaldo G. Navales
ANGELES CITY -- The City Government has asked banks and other establishments to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems in their respective buildings.
Mayor Francis "Blueboy" Nepomuceno directed the enforcement of Ordinance 175 series of 2005, which requires all banks, moneychangers, pawnshops, malls, supermarkets and other similar establishments to install CCTV monitors to prevent cases of robbery, theft, and similar crimes.
According to Nepomuceno, the enforcement of the ordinance is in adherence to the Local Government Code's Section 16, which states that every local government unit (LGU) shall exercise its powers essential to the promotion of the general welfare of its inhabitants.
Nepomuceno said the ordinance was approved by the City Council on January 16, 2006 but many establishments are not complying with the law. He added that CCTV monitors would help avert cases of robbery in this city.
The ordinance states that all banks, moneychangers, pawnshops, malls, supermarkets and other similar establishments with capitalization of more than P500,000 are required to install CCTV monitors within a period one year.
The City Government may revoke the business permits of establishments found not complying with ordinance, Nepomuceno said.
"We will be able to monitor and identify crime perpetrators and eventually deter criminal activities inside various financial institutions if CCTVs are installed," Nepomuceno reasoned.
