MEXICO -- Police here are set to wage a heightened campaign against burglary syndicates following the spate of "forced-in robberies" perpetuated by the notorious Acetylene gang.
In a command conference, Municipal Police Chief Ferdinand directed section heads, intelligence officers and officers manning their posts to be extra vigilant in monitoring activities in the town's commercial areas and suspicious characters out to victimize the businessmen.
Over the weekend, the Acetylene gang attempted to rob an Angeles City branch of Western Union but had been foiled by what police there claim as "police visibility" and the vigilance of citizens who tipped authorities of the unusual activity going on in the area.
The attempted robbery succeeded the forced entry of the same group to a Sindalan pawnshop in the City of San Fernando a few weeks ago where P40,000 in cash and P2 million worth of pawned jewelry were stolen.
Police investigators noted that the group employed the same modus operandi, where they rent a vacant space adjacent to a pawnshop, bank or outfits engaged in the money business, pay the downpayment and perpetrate the crime afterwards. (JTDL)
