CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Former Pampanga congressman Reynaldo Aquino was recently appointed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as head of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth) which aims to assist indigent families in the country.
Philhealth is a premier government corporation which ensures sustainable, affordable, and progressive social health insurance.
It endeavors to influence the delivery of accessible quality health care for all Filipinos.
As a financial intermediary, Philhealth continuously evolve a sustainable National Health Insurance Program that leads towards universal coverage, ensures better benefits for it's members at affordable premiums and establish close coordination with it's clients through a strong partnership with all stakeholders.
It also seeks to provide effective internal information and management systems to influence the delivery of quality health care services.
During his stint at the House of Representatives in 2004- 2007, Aquino was the vice chairman of the House committee on health and local government and member of the committees on appropriations, civil service and professional regulation, food security, games and amusement, trade and industry and public works and highways.
He was also a member of the Mt. Pinatubo Commission which helped victims of the volcanic eruption.
Aquino was able to author a total of 38 bills that include House Bill (HB) 01990 or An Act Establishing A System Of Public School Accreditation By The Department of Education For All The Nation's Public Elementary School and HB 02233 or An Act Constituting The City of San Fernando In The Province of Pampanga into a lone district and for other purposes.
Aquino also co-authored a total of 96 bills.
He was awarded as an Outstanding Mayor by the Local Government Academy and Center for Local and Regional Governance at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City in 2003; chosen as Outstanding Public Servant by the Philippine National Police in 2000; and an Outstanding Kapampangan for Public Service awardee in 1998.
He also received a presidential award from the prestigious Pampanga Press Club.
