CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Students of Pampanga High School (PHS) here can now bake and sell their own bread products while learning the basics of bread making and marketing.
This, after the Rotary Club of San Fernando donated a P30,000-worth oven to PHS.
Alfrito "Bong" Mah of the San Fernando Rotary Club said the project was made possible through the efforts of club president Boy Pacla.
"Just imagine students learning to do business at a young age. The potential of the youth to be proactive in business is something that local government officials should look into," Mah said.
Expressing thanks for the donation were PHS principal Imelda Macaspac and teacher Jocelyn Quizon. The two said the oven will perk up baking and production in the school's home economics program.
With fewer expenses, students can now produce pan de sal and sell them at a cheaper price.
Mah said it is already up to the teachers to instruct the students on the basics of marketing and selling their products.
Putting a little more health responsibility to the donation, Mah said they are urging the school to use Vitamin A-fortified flour.
"The flour is good for the eyes, especially if the breads sold to students are Vitamin A fortified we could be assured that they can have the proper intake of Vitamin A," Mah added.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Vitamin A deficiency is under control in the United States. But in developing countries, Vitamin A deficiency is a significant concern. (IOF)
