CAMP OLIVAS -- Since 2006, police offices in Central Luzon have filed 19 cases against communist armed groups for crime against persons and property, as well as cases related to national security.
Central Luzon police director Errol Pan said 86 have been solved and six members of the communist groups have been apprehended.
Pan disclosed this during the recent press briefing before the start of a consultative meeting with the members of the Regional Inter-Agency Legal Action Group (Rialag).
He also reported the intensified campaign in all forms of cases that are considered threats to national security, particularly cases perpetrated by communist groups, which he tagged as terrorists.
Pan is the chairman of the regional Ialag.
Lawyer Jefferson Soriano, executive director of Ialag, visited this camp recently to assess Rialag campaign activities and performance involving New People's Army (NPA) and other groups that are considered threats to national security.
Soriano said it's a continuing effort by the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the entire country to coordinate national security cases pursuant to Executive Order (EO) 493, which was signed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on January 17, 2006.
It acknowledges the need for a more coordinated approach to strengthen the inter-departmental cooperation in the conduct of investigation, prosecution and monitoring of offenses relating of national security.
