Pangan: Building with a conscience
By Benjie R. Pangan
At Close Range

MOST entrepreneurs work for a profit; some, however, work for the mere love of it and still others are obsessed with providing only a labor of love, sometimes gratis et al. Believe it or not, there are still entrepreneurs with conscience. One is Wilfredo "Willie" Tan, proprietor of Hausland Realty and Development with main office at Don Bonifacio, Angeles City.

"I am a builder with a conscience," so claimed Willie over a working lunch last Friday, together with Mayor Boking, Toti Reyes and Abby Bautista of TECO, Engineer Rod de Leon, Mabalacat Building official and current president of the Mabalacat Government Employees Association or Magea, MPDC's Bernard delos Reyes and Municipal Administrator Rosan S. Paquia. The primary agenda was the signing of the MOA for the inception and full implementation of the Northeast Plan and the Comprehensive Land Use Plan or Clup of Mabalacat.

"I am not as rich as the other well-funded contractors," confessed Willie, "but the trademarks of my business concerns are: honesty, customer and client satisfaction, and integrity. If you observe these traits, everything falls into place and you will gain more investor confidence."

I say therefore that Willie's being awarded by Ernst and Young as outstanding entrepreneur in land development is no fluke after all. I just hope other contractors may follow Willie's orientation: spread the butter wider enough for more people to savor it. Presently, Willie is preoccupied with his FIESTA housing activities which, by the way, have the blessing of no other than Vice President Noli de Castro.

By the way, I doff my hat to the recycling prince, Rox Pena and the teacher ng bayan Cecille Yumul for their very relevant issues on BUKAS BAYAN program every Saturday, from 8:30 to 9 a.m. over dwRW 95.1. Every program they host is relevant and informative and is embellished by the hosts' grain of wisdom and wit. Carry on, Rox and Cecille.

Mabalacat Extension Office at Clark. Work is in high pitch at the forthcoming extension office of the LGU of Mabalacat. Designed by Architect Ernesto de Jesus, the edifice has been rehabilitated from the old Mt. Pinatubo Commission-type unit and will house several offices of the local government. Overseeing work there is Mabalacat Tourism Officer Guy (spelled GIE) and with the blessing of Mayor Boking Morales. This is where part of the taxes paid by the taxpayers is being spent, no arguing about that.

Xevera full blast. Another work in progress is at the ambitious Xevera subdivision in Barangay Tabun. Workaholic project engineer Bernie Pacheco, a native of Paombong, Bulacan, leads the team hard at work, starting at the site development which was bagged by Juan Sambo, a native of Sto. Tomas, Pampanga, but now a prominent figure in Pampanga's construction business, courtesy of his father-in-law, Mayor Morales. After the Clark Manor project, John is now busy with this latest addition to his achievements list. Attaboy, John.

Condolence, Terry. Although belatedly, I'd like to extend my and my family's condolences to Local Civil Registrar Victor Terry A. Medina for the demise of his beloved mom, Lolita G. Ancheta Medina.

Born November 28, 1939, Imang Lita saw through the transformation of her children into professionals and model citizens and this she did through discipline, hard work and true, tender loving care. You'll be missed, Ima not only by your brood and close relatives but also by others whom you've touched with your innate gentleness, kindness and charity. The department heads, supervisors and officials of the LGU of Mabalacat headed by Mayor Morales likewise manifested their sympathy to the family of the late Lolita G. Ancheta Medina, the worthy mother of an equally worthy son, Terry and, of course, his siblings.

I feel happy for the new accomplishment of AVP Bien Mateo which is the SM Marikina site opening on September 4. Bien sees the opening next of SM Baliwag and Rosales in Pangasinan. A hardworking guy, Bien is regimented and disposes matters with dispatch.

Congrats, Bien! And thanks a lot, too, Lana Erroba, SM Clark's mall manager for your kind accommodation last week.
