Biz group donates school buildings

MINALIN -- The Pampanga chapter of the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce (FFCCC) facilitated over the weekend the formal turnover of elementary school buildings in five municipalities in the province in line with the business group's national flagship project dubbed "Barrio Schools Program."

Chapter president Eddie Chua said FFCCC is committed to help the government provide quality education to children through the construction of elementary school buildings here.

Various public elementary schools in the towns of Minalin, Bacolor, Lubao, Sta. Rita and Mexico were the beneficiaries of the program.

Last Friday, the FFCCC officers led the formal turnover of a two-unit school building to Sta. Catalina Elementary here.

Mario Ong Chan, the benefactor, facilitated the formal turnover of the school building to Mayor Edgar Flores and teachers of the said elementary school.

Constructed at a cost of P400,000, Flores said the school building would boost the learning environment of the children.

The mayor urged the organization to continue helping the Municipal Government in building of more classrooms.

Chua, for his part, said FFCCC has built more or less 3,790 school buildings across the country. Around 130 units from the total number have been constructed in Pampanga. Each of the school units can accommodate 50 students.

"Our Filipino-Chinese businessmen and professionals here treat and recognize themselves as Filipinos and bona fide residents of this country. This is our way of helping out to the community. The school buildings are our lasting legacy for Pampanga students," he said.

Chua, who was part of the Save Pampanga Movement immediately after the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo, added that most beneficiary schools were those devastated by lahar flows.

"We will commit ourselves to see more school buildings here in Pampanga," he promised. (IOF)
