Group holds photo exhibit for grandparents

IN ACCORDANCE with the national celebration of Grandparents' Day, the Quota International Pampanga Chapter, in cooperation with SM City Pampanga and Photos du Monde, has put up a photo exhibit in honor of grandparents last Monday.

The exhibit dubbed as "Ding Apu Tamu" runs from September 8 to 15 at the SM City Pampanga Building 4.

The event is also a fundraising project for the benefit of the hearing-impaired and mute children of the province, according to event chairperson Malou Garbes.

The exhibit showcases grandmother members of Quota Pampanga who have been successful in their respective careers and as accomplished mothers and grandparents.

It showcases the likes of businesswoman Theresa "Tess" Laus, wife of business icon Liberato "Levy" Laus. Mrs. Laus, who has a handful of grandchildren manages restaurants and has been an active player in civic service activities.

Another is Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Lucia "Luchie" Gutierrez. The steadfast head of the province's disaster coordinating council has one grandchild and describes her experience as a grandmother as "exciting."

Board Member Edna David also joined the rank of grandparents. The politician from the second district is a multi-awarded public servant and heads the province's education and health committees.

Garbes said the exhibit also showcases the power of women grandparents and their ability to influence and mold the life of their family and the community.

"This is also a way of promoting Quota and our various projects for Pampanga," Garbes added.

The impetus for a Grandparents' Day originated from Marian McQuade (now aged 91), a housewife in Fayette County, West Virginia. Her primary motivation was to champion the cause of lonely elderly in nursing homes. She also hoped to persuade grandchildren to tap the wisdom and heritage their grandparents could provide.

The opening of the exhibit was attended by May Bergmann of Quota Pampanga, City Mayor Oscar Rodriguez, businessman Rene Romero, Board Member Edna David and Quota International Pampanga Chapter members and officials.
