Monday, September 29, 2008 Bible congress slated By Jovi T. De Leon
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- A Bible Congress, featuring a roster of prominent Bible scholars led by Bishop Pablo David will kick off this year's Catholic Education Consciousness Week (CECW) slated from September 29 to October 3 at the University of the Assumption in this city.
The CECW is a project of the 15-member Association of Archdiocesan Schools of Pampanga, a group that advocates for the importance of Catholic education as an important factor in the formation of students and the youth in general.
The theme of the week-long celebration is "Catholic Education and the Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Family."
Aside from Bishop David who will speak about "The Word of God and Catholic Education," Fr. Victor Nicdao and Fr. Jesus Layug Jr. of the Mother of Good Counsel Seminary will also grace the congress and discuss "The Relevance of St. Paul to Catholic Educators" and "The Word of God and Family" respectively.
All three prelates are authorities in Sacred Scriptures and have earned their postgraduate degrees in Rome and other biblical schools abroad.
According to CECW organizer Bishop Roberto Mallari, other Catholic schools run by various religious orders and congregations as well as private organizations and lay groups will also be participating in the events.
On October 2, representatives from various schools and groups will vie for the top slots in the poster-making contest and interpretative dance competition where the contestants will move to the theme song of the Catholic Family Bible Quiz "Power to Unite," the 2007 New York Festivals' television broadcasting Gold World Medalist.
The celebration will be capped by the Archdiocesan Level of the Catholic Family Bible Quiz on October 3, where 20 families from the different schools of the Archdiocese of San Fernando will try to outdo each other for the chance to represent the archdiocese in the regional competitions slated on November.
Fer Santos, Mallari's secretary and close aide said on Saturday that the family bible quiz, collaborated by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines and sponsored by philanthropist Elvira Go of confection giant Columbia, will be held at the Domus Mariae International Hotel of UA.
He said this year's quiz has more participants compared to the previous year as the 12 vicariates of the archdiocese are well represented.
