BI agents apprehend German for computer fraud
By Reynaldo G. Navales

ANGELES CITY -- Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents have arrested a German national wanted for alleged computer fraud in his country.

Peter Uwe Muller, a resident of Sandico Street, Diamond Subdivision, Barangay Balibago in this city was arrested recently in his residence and is currently detained at the Bicutan Immigration Jail.

BI commissioner Marcelino Libanan said Muller is wanted in his country for allegedly swindling thousands of investors through massive computer fraud.

Libanan said Muller will be kicked out of the country as soon as the BI Board of Commissioners comes out with the order for his summary deportation.

He added that Muller's passport was already cancelled by the German government, making him an undocumented and illegally staying alien in the Philippines.

Libanan said the bureau recently intensified its campaign against human trafficking.

He issued the mission order for Muller's arrest upon the request of the German Embassy in Manila. The embassy sought the BI's help to locate and arrest Muller.

According to BI spokesman lawyer Floro Balato Jr., Muller is wanted to stand trial before a local court in Dresden, Germany where he had been criminally charged with computer fraud.

Balato said the German allegedly cheated thousands of German and European investors through fraudulent Internet trading transactions from 2001 to 2006.

"He (Muller) offered to sell to victims, through the Internet, various goods for which he received payments in Euro dollars through electronic money transfers but failed to deliver the products to the buyers," Balato added.

A check of the BI's records showed that Muller arrived in the country last January 7 and was admitted as a balikbayan by reason of his marriage to a Filipina.

His passport was, however, canceled by the German government on September 12, which made him an undocumented alien in the country.
