Ducut cites new power substation in Clark
By Reynaldo G. Navales

CLARK FREEPORT -- Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) chairperson and chief executive officer (CEO) Zenaida Ducut has cited the newly inaugurated Kalaw Sub-station here, saying the facility is a welcome development for the electric industry.

Ducut said the commissioning of the substation by the Clark Electric Distribution Corporation (CEDC) is expected to spur development in the Freeport and the rest of Pampanga.

"I hope the new power sub-station will result in the creation of jobs and business opportunities in and around the Clark Freeport," Ducut told veteran broadcaster Sonny Lopez Jr. over "Aksyon Central Luzon Special Edition."

CEDC officials led by its president Jesus Francisco recently opened the Kalaw Sub-station -- its fourth power distribution facility here.

Francisco said the Kalaw Substation was built to provide the needs of the Freeport. The facility has a capacity of 83MVA (Mega-volt Ampere).

He added that the project is in consonance with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's vision to make Clark a world-class services and logistics center.

With the presence of the Kalaw Sub-station, Ducut said Clark has "equal chances along with other economic zones in having the lowest power rates for its investors."

"This is a ballgame for the power providers operating in the economic zone. Cost efficiency is one of the major factors that can push electricity rates down," Ducut stressed.

She, however, said there are other factors contributing to high rates like the purchased power cost, fuel, and others that go along with generation, transmission, distribution, supply and metering.

Francisco, during the opening of the Kalaw Sub-station, announced that the new power facility is capable of supplying power to the Sacobia Valley, which is now called Clark's "new frontier."

Ducut said the facilty is a welcome development particularly to investors who wish to locate in the Sacobia Valley. She assured that the ERC will always maintain a strong alliance with energy providers like Clark Electric to bring a brighter future to the Filipino people.
