It was led by Philippine Health Insurance (Philhealth) president Reynaldo Aquino and Provincial Board's committee on health chairperson Edna David.

The walk started from SM City Pampanga Amphitheater and snaked along Jose Abad Santos Avenue here. The event even featured a short program highlighting tips and exercises for good health.

David said the activity was timely since the country and the world is currently observing the month against breast cancer.

"There should also be a local awareness campaign a against breast cancer. This type of cancer affects four out of ten women in the country. It is really a big help if we can promote this in barangays," she said.

David said the Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer.

The month is also a prime opportunity to remind women to be breast aware for earlier detection, according to David.

Daisy Rodriguez, 45, a breast cancer survivor for three years now from Pilar Village here said she will continuously supporting such efforts for breast cancer awareness.

"Breast cancer could be at least prevented if women have all the necessary information and health information to combat it," Rodriguez said. (IOF)
