2 quarry checkers sacked
By Jovi de Matuits

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO --- Two quarry checkers were sacked for allegedly allowing a truck to pass through a checkpoint here without paying fees.

Provincial Administrator Vivian Dabu told Sun.Star Pampanga that the two checkers, whom she refused to name, have been terminated.

"Three other employees assigned in the checkpoint have been cleared and ordered to go back to their post," she said.

The drive against irregularities in the quarry operations has been heightened by the capitol to address the problem on the plunging quarry collections. In the past three months, an average of 32 percent was lost because of corruption.

Two weeks ago, the Provincial Board (PB) asked the officials of the Provincial Treasurer's Office to include the alleged recycling of receipts in its report .

Current checkers of the Biyaya A Luluguran at Sisikapan (Balas) allegedly tolerate corruption at their level.

The PB has been on the trail of reported anomalies in the province's 41 quarry checkpoints. Board Member Tarcicio Halili said this is a major factor in low quarry collections.

During a PB committee hearing last month, former Balas leader Fil Rodriguez hinted that there are dubious activities going on at the checkpoints.

Dabu refused to disclose other details of the investigation her office is conducting, saying the information might affect the current monitoring in four other areas were anomalies are rampant.

According to her, they are now on track in pinpointing the "existence of a mole" in the operations, who has hampered the investigation by relaying to erring checkers information regarding the capitol's moves.
