Saturday, October 25, 2008 Town official denies sending anti-recall letter By Chris Navarro
CANDABA -- An official in this town has disowned a letter sent to Sun.Star Pampanga, which stated remarks against groups and recall moves against Governor Eddie T. Panlilio.
Architect Andy Gulapa, a municipal councilor here, said he did not send the letter entitled "Makarine! Nakakahiya! (Shameful! Shameless!)
Gulapa said he has no knowledge about the letter that was sent through email address goamong@gmail.com.
The said letter stated that Panlilo is the best leader that Pampanga ever had.
"We therefore must resist and fight the move of the well-financed recall movement no matter what it takes," the letter stated.
Gulapa, a past president of the United Architects of the Philippines-Pampanga Chapter, said he does not use the Internet for his communications.
"Isa lang tayong maliit na politiko at simpleng tao na nangaling sa Barangay Barangca. Hindi tayo mahilig mag-internet at hindi natin gawain ang maging confrontational lalu na sa pagsulat. Kung may mga issue tayong nais na iparating ay ilalahad natin ito mismo sa mga taong concern," Gulapa said.
He described the letter as fake and opined that it might be a handiwork of individuals out on a demolition job against him.
Gulapa however admitted that he considers Governor Panlilio as a "personal friend."
But he added that although he is not for the recall, he can do nothing about it since the recall is part of the political process and he respects and obeys the law.
Gulapa also urge the people to remain calm and wait for the decision of the Comelec on the recall petition initiated by the group Kapanalig at Kambilan ning Memalen Pampanga (Kambilan).
"We should respect the decision of the poll body," he said.
He further said the author of the letter intends to discredit and tarnish his reputation not only as a councilor but also as an architect.
"I believe that no amount of malicious articles can put us down. We believe that truth and righteousness will always prevail in the end," Gulapa ended.
