Friday, November 07, 2008 BMW 3 Series: Dynamic Arrival
THE new BMW 3 Series provides the answer to the individual requirements of contemporary driving.
It embraces extreme characteristics so far not achieved in its class: more powerful engines with lesser fuel consumption, increased interior space with enhanced driving dynamics and more agility with higher comfort.
With the new BMW 3 Series, BMW unveils its modern interpretation of an iconic sports sedan.
The physical proportions of the new BMW 3 Series have grown in all dimensions. The longer wheelbase and the wider body contribute to a more spacious interior and passenger comfort without sacrificing driving agility. This gives the new BMW 3 Series not only the stance but also the feel of a definitive sports sedan.
The new BMW 3 Series delivers an instant message of elegant dynamics. Flowing surfaces and sleek curves communicate elegance while the long wheelbase and short overhangs give an immediate impression of dynamism.
The proportions of the new BMW 3 series convey a clear sense of dynamism. The overhangs are short, and the greenhouse is well set back, following on from the long bonnet.
The car's physical dimensions have all grown compared to the outgoing model. Particularly striking: the coupe-like, flowing lines. The powerdome makes an immediate impact, its sweeping lines continuing down into the front air dam.
The BMW 3 Series is equipped with BMW Navigation System. This portable Global Positioning System (GPS) device maps out directions to selected destinations.
Users simply have to input their destination on the 3.5-inch touch screen and the BMW Navigation System instantly provides guidance through a pre-installed map that covers major thoroughfares in cities and municipalities around the Philippines.
In the new BMW 3 Series, vehicle load is equally distributed between the front and rear axle. This ideal weight distribution was achieved through the intelligent utilization of innovative components coupled with rear wheel drive. These attributes translate to excellent traction and precise steering qualities.
Truly dynamic performance is further achieved with elements like Dynamic Stability Control and Cornering Brake Control. Functioning seamlessly with ABS, DTC and DBC, they complement the driving experience with superb agility, enhanced active safety and considerably improved ride comfort.
The new BMW 3 Series is powered by a new generation of in-line 6-cylinder engines. A world-first in the magnesium-aluminum crankcase that substantially reduces engine-weight, making the new BMW 3 Series more agile and dynamic.
Valvetronic technology enhances engine performance and delivers cleaner emissions, while Bi-Vanos provides higher torque at low speeds and superior performance at high revs. And with the world's first water pump, fuel economy is further improved as the coolant supply no longer depends on engine speed but is matched to actual coolant requirements. The result is pure driving enjoyment.

BMW 3 Series - Power. Petrol Engines.
A world-first in BMW's straight-six petrol engines is the crankcase: it is made of a magnesium-aluminum alloy. This saves weight and makes the new BMW 3 Series even more agile and dynamic.
For the 2.5-litre engine, power has increased from 141-kW/192 bhp to 160 kW/218 bhp.
The new BMW 330i has the highest specific output in its class. Weighing in at 161 kg, the new straight-six engine is approximately 6-percent lighter than its predecessor and thus one of the most lightweight six-cylinder engines in the world.
The new straight-six engines feature an impressive array of technical innovations.
* Valvetronic now also used in the BMW straight-six engine: ensures reduced fuel consumption under part-load conditions.
* more lightweight components: enable higher engine speeds (up to 7,000 rpm).
The new engine generation now also comes with innovative features such as Bi-Vanos.
The six-cylinder in-line engines combine power with supreme refinement.
