DR. RAUL Sunico, top Filipino pianist and dean of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Conservatory of Music, is featured in a piano concert on Monday, November 10 at 4 p.m. at the Holy Angel University Theatre (HAU).
The concert, dubbed as "Romancing the Piano," is part of a concert series organized by the University in celebration of its 75th foundation anniversary.
Dean Sunico's repertoire is divided into three parts: classical music, Filipino love songs and Broadway musicals. He will also perform his version of the Kapampangan folk song "Atin Ku Pung Singsing," which he arranged especially for the HAU concert.
Praised for his "unusual gifts of lyricism and poetry as well as great brilliance" by his mentor, Sascha Gorodnitzki, Dean Sunico has earned international recognition as a concert pianist, recording artist, orchestral soloist and composer-arranger of Philippine music.
He has also embarked on a series of projects on music education, arranged and recorded songs of the Philippine Revolution, authored a textbook series ("Musika at Sining") for elementary grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 which were approved by DepEd for use in public schools starting SY 1999-2000.
Ros Music Center, the event's co-sponsor, has arranged for the concert the use of an original Porsche-designed Bosendorfer grand piano, considered the most prestigious piano in the world.
