The evolving artworks of Ronald Salazar

ARTIST Ronald Salazar has done it again, making the rounds of various art commissions in Manila and other provinces; he made most of his mundane as he raises the bar on his creativity coming up with more evolved artworks.

"In painting, I'm a hyper-realist by nature who normally uses oil and acrylic. My art evolved from realism to abstract, basically its in between abstract and realism," Ronald said during the installation of his artwork at the Sta. Parish Church in Sta. Rita town.

Salazar was commissioned to create the official standard of St. Rita's relic, which was installed in Sta. Rita town parish church recently.

Evidently, Ron's philosophical approach was somehow influenced by his mentor Rene Robles, founder of the Art Movement "Assertionism." In such art movement, Ron takes out inspiration from objects reflected on soft and reflective surfaces.

"I'm not choosy with my subjects. I usually use an object like a door, door knob, plastic bottles, etc. and reflect my subjects into it then reduced to a smaller compass, this way it is possible for me to distort my subject to create an abstract form and sometimes I render it into a realistic form depending on my mood. My mood also affects my colors," Salazar explained.

Ron's art usually depicts human figures, culture and religion. His artworks have made it through various private collections. But, rather than being content, Ronald has continuously reinvented himself.

His early exposure and immersion in the art scene has gained for him a couple of feathers for his cap. He was Grand Prize Winner at the 54th Art Association of the Philippines Annual Art Competition in 2001 (Sculpture Category), 1st Honorable Mention at the Shell National Student's Art Competition in 1998, and 1st honorable Mention at the UST Annual On-the-spot Painting Competition in 2001.

He also gained corporate and institutional reorganizations like the Honorable Mention at the Westin Philippine Plaza On-the-spot Painting Competition in 2001, Featured at the Development Bank of the Philippines millennium calendar for 2000, Finalist at the Art Association of the Philippines Semi Annual Abstract Competition in 2006 and 2nd place at the Colegio de San Lorenzo Linggo ng Wika On-the-spot painting Contest 1994, among others.
