6 schools join 3rd Oca Intercollegiate Basketball Games

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Six schools have participated in the 3rd Oca intercollegiate basketball games which formally opened at Robinsons Starmills last Saturday.

Mayor Oscar "Oca" Rodriguez led the formal opening of the basketball games, flanked by participants and officials of AMA Computer College (Amacc), AMA Computer Learning Center (ACLC), Asian College of Science and Technology (Acsat), Asian Institute of Computer Studies (Aics), Central Luzon College of Science an Technology (CLCST), and St. Nicolas College of Business and Technology (SNCBT).

The intercollegiate games, now on its third year, aims to provide an effective sporting event for basketball enthusiast in the college level.

The games are divided into male and female divisions. The games will run from November 15 to December 5 with venues set at the Villa Barosa, Pampanga High School and Heroes Hall Covered Courts here.

According to Rodriguez, the games also provide as a training ground for potential basketball players in city.

"These games are part of the sports programs of the city. We also have sporting games in the grassroots level like inter-barangay basketball games," he said.

Rodriguez said the collegiate games, which will kick off today, is aimed at inculcating the spirit of teamwork, self-discipline, strengthen inter-office relations, and promote stronger camaraderie among students.

Acsat, the host school for this year, is seen as the toughest competitor in both basketball divisions. ACLC's female division is expected to wrestle this year's championship against arch nemesis Amacc.

Sally San Angel of ACLC said that they have vowed to rise from second place last year to the over-all champion this year.

"The students are very excited since we have trained hard this year and we hope to raise our ranking among other schools here," San Angel said. (IOF)
