Angeles-Clark-Mabalacat cited as IT-BPO host
By Reynaldo G. Navales

CLARK FREEPORT -- This Freeport, Angeles City, and Mabalacat town were included in the list of the country's top 10 hosts for Information Technology (IT) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industries.

The Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT), Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP), and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) recently announced the winners of Top Ten Next Wave Cities for Outsourcing.

CICT commissioner Monchito Ibrahim invited and lauded officials of Clark Development Corporation (CDC) led by President Benigno Ricafort and the two other areas.

Ricafort attended the awarding ceremonies last Wednesday at the Crowne Plaza, Robinson's Galleria.

"The Commission on Information and Communications Technology together with the Business Processing Association of the Philippines would like to extend our congratulations to Pampanga, specifically to the cities of Angeles, Clark, Mabalacat, and Dau for garnering 6th place in the CICT-BPAP-DTI Top Ten Next Wave City Ranking," Ibrahim said in a letter.

In the CICT website, it was reported that Metro Laguna and Metro Cavite ranked first and second, respectively, as the country's best next wave cities outside Metro Manila and Metro Cebu.

"In places 3 to 10 are: Iloilo City, Davao City, Bacolod City, Angeles-Clark-Mabalacat, Baliuag-Marilao-Meycauyan, Cagayan de Oro, Malolos-Calumpit, and Lipa City," the website reported.

The website added that 80 percent of the Philippine outsourcing industry is located in Metro Manila. This means that over 240,000 IT-BPO employees are working within close proximity of each other.

"Having 10 Next Wave Cities and more will help ease the pressure and spread the benefit of employment, higher incomes, and increased business activity across the country," it added.
