Saturday, December 20, 2008 5 Clark locators conferred 'Green Plaques' By Reynaldo G. Navales
CLARK FREEPORT -- Some five locators here have been conferred the "Green Plaque Environmental Awards" by the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) in recognition of their outstanding feats of exceeding compliance requirements to national environmental standards.
Recipient of the awards were Clark Water Corp. (CWC), CRL Environmental Corp., H3 Technology Phils Inc. Micro Hi-Fi Solutions Inc., and Yokohama Tire Philippines Inc.
The firms were cited for their continuous development and advocacy programs geared on achieving superior environmental performance.
Dr. Mariza Mandocdoc, CDC assistant vice-president for Permits, Licensing and Monitoring, said the recognition of this outstanding achievement in the field of environment is a flagship project of CDC President Benigno N. Ricafort.
She said the granting of the Environment Awards "is a testimony of CDC's and the locators' desires to preserve and nourish our beautiful environment."
The factors considered in the evaluation process included the implementation of accredited Environmental Systems such as ISO-14001 and other national and international quality management standards, as well as the adoption of industry best practices designed for the protection and conservation of the environment.
It also includes the implementation of projects under the Clean Development Mechanism of the United Nations Environmental Program like cleaner production, conservation of resources, proper waste management, reduction of CO2 emissions and lesser dependence on non-renewable energy resources"
According to Mandocdoc, the awardees were chosen from 74 industrial locators here.
She added that the awards are in line with the objectives of the Industrial Ecowatch System of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Environmental Management Bureau (EMB).
The EMB's Ecowatch program aims to promote compliance to environmental laws through mandatory self-monitoring and encourage pollution reduction beyond compliance through public recognition and praise.
Mandocdoc said the five locators were awarded Green Plaques.
She added that in the succeeding years of the Clark Environmental Awards, locators with consistent outstanding performance for two consecutive years will be awarded silver plaques, and Gold Plaques for two more consecutive years of outstanding compliance after that. They will also be given CDC environmental incentives.
Ricafort, Mandocdoc, CILA President Jeannie Del Rosario-Ng, and CILA BOD Chairman Mark Pressley awarded the Green Plaques to the five locators in a ceremony at the Stotsenberg Hotel last Wednesday.
Those who received the Environmental Awards were Tomohiro Yoneko, VP Admin with Angelina Casasola AVP-HRGS of Yokohama Tire Philippines Inc.; Elizabeth P.
