Laus offers simple solution to hard times

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Levy P. Laus, one of the leading businessmen in Pampanga and Central Luzon, has a simple old-fashioned solution to hard times that almost everyone may face in 2009 - hard work.

"Nobody has yet found a better substitute for it," Laus told the officers of the Laus Group of Companies on his first meeting with them this year at the Laus Group Corporate Center here.

Laus said that while working smart has been aggressively advocated by business pundits and analysts, it cannot substitute for hard work.

"Hard work is what works," he said.

Laus told the corporate officers of the business group's 23 firms in Metro Manila, Central and North Luzon that the economic and business climate will continue to be buoyed by lower oil prices and single-digit inflation.

He said various infrastructure and development projects in the province and region will provide impetus to economic expansion and business activities.

Laus, who founded the business network, mostly on car dealership, over 30 years ago, had earlier credited President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for her bold economic reforms and policies that he said prepared the country for the unexpected world financial crisis.

"Our country has not suffered as much other countries in the world have as a result of the financial meltdown because we were better prepared for it," said Laus, who is a close ally of Arroyo and chairman of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The group has vowed to serve as catalyst for development and progress in Pampanga and Central Luzon. (IOF)
