Fama vows to reduce drug activities in town
MANGALDAN -- The new municipal chief of police has expressed optimism he could reduce the incidence of illegal drugs in town.
Chief Insp. Harris Fama, who replaced Supt. Bernardo Reamon Jr. as chief of police, said the fight against illegal drugs is one of the four priorities that he would focus into as directed by regional police director Chief Supt. Arturo Lomibao.
Reamon replaced Supt. Jose de Vera in Manaoag town, who was assigned in Malasiqui where Fama came from.
Fama said his other priorities are police visibility and police community partnership, two important ingredients in the fight against criminality, and the traffic problem.
"I hope I could already make a report to Gen. Lomibao in three months," he said.
"I will adopt the measures I initiated in Malasiqui and the knowledge and skills I learned during the 15 years that I had been in the intelligence unit," he said. Fama, who once headed the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Dagupan City and Baguio City, was commented nationally by the Traffic Management Group for relentless campaign against illegal vehicles and drivers without license during this short stint in Malasiqui.
The police chief has move his office from the second floor of the municipal police station to the ground floor "to be with men to develop good relationship and for the people to reach me easily."
Expecting to reduce illegal drugs by 51 percent in three months, Fama said he would conduct continuous massive information on the evils of drugs by conducting symposium among teachers, students and parents.
"This we will do so that they would also know the features of the new comprehensive anti-drug law while we go against the drug pushers-users in the town," he said. FPM
