New fish market soon to arise
By Sheila H. Aquino

A NEW fish market will rise in Dagupan City to replace the Masaysay fish market as part of the city government's efforts to improve the public market system.

Mayor Benjamin S. Lim bared this during a consultants' meeting with the board of directors and members of the Malimgas Dagupan Vendors Federation (Madavfe) at the Edades Hall.

Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. has allocated P10 million as fund for the construction of the fish market, which has a total project cost of P17 million, according to Lim.

Lim met with Madavfe officers to discuss concerns regarding the construction of a four-story public market building that will replace the existing one-story Malimgas market.

Vendors will be temporarily relocated at the newly purchased Mc Adore property in Galvan once construction of the news Malimgas market starts.

Lim dismissed doubts of the vendors that they cannot sell their goods and earn much at the temporary relocation site.

"Aga ak manisya ya anggapoy mangaliw ed sikayo di man ed Mc Adore. Paliwawaen tayo so Mc Adore (I do not believe that no one would buy from you in the MC Adore. We will brighten MC Adore)," Lim said as he stressed that business opportunity will only improve with the new market.

"This agam-agam (perception) is temporary," he added.

The mayor disclosed that no goodwill would be collected from the vendors at the new market but only the deposit of three months and an advance rental of three months.

Lim said he would seek the support of the City Council to approve an experimental traffic scheme, which will allow other routes to enter along the MC Adore premises while the two entrances at Zamora, and Galvan will be open to the public.

The city will execute a contract with each vendor who will occupy a space at the new market.

Lim said he would present to the group the plan for the market after the Holy Week. This will include the design, terms, conditions and frequency of payment.

The top two floors of the new market will serve as a parking area while the other two will become the market area.
