Wanted person yields to police
By Liway C. Manantan-Yparraguirre

MANGALDAN -- The number eight most wanted person recently surrendered to this town's chief of police.

Johnny de Vera, 31, married, a vendor residing at Barangay David, has been in hiding from the law for more than two years. He is facing charges of frustrated homicide.

His warrant of arrest was issued by Judge Clifton U. Gamay of RTC Branch 31, Agoo, La Union. His case is docketed under criminal case number A-3984 with a required bailbond of P24,000.

Police Chief Insp. Insp. Harris Fama, Mangaldan police chief, said the voluntary surrender materialized after he acted on the surrender feelers sent by the suspect through a relative.

Fama said this is a result of the vigorous campaign the police unit adopted to neutralize the wanted persons in the municipality. Two weeks ago, he was able to obtain a validated list twenty most wanted persons in the municipality or those who are in the PNP's order of battle.

Immediately after securing the list, Fama coordinated with the different barangay captains and requested the list be posted at their barangay billboards.

"We received good feedback in this campaign. Barangay folks say they now know whether they are mingling with wanted persons, now they can report the presence of any of the twenty to the police station," he remarked.

"The arrest of these wanted persons will give justice to the victims. On the other hand, the suspect will have the chance to prove in the court of law his innocence if he is not really guilty of the charge thrown against him," he added.

Fama said the surrender of De Vera came at the heels of two successful arrests made by the police station. The 14th and 17th most wanted persons here were arrested on separate occasions last April 3. Diosdado de Vera was charged for violation of Batas Pambansa 22 (three counts) while Riza Ventura is facing qualified theft.

Meanwhile, the local police recently arrested a drug pusher who is included in the illegal drug target list. This came through after the successful conduct of search at the houses Ferdinande Quindo located at Barangay Bari and Ydia Street, Poblacion.

The search netted approximately 16.67 grams of shabu, shabu paraphernalia and cash money amounting to P47, 450. Before his arrest, Quinto has been under probation for marijuana peddling.

The search, which was conducted by virtue of the search warrant issued by Judge Silverio Castillo of the Regional Trial Court Branch 43 in Dagupan City, was conducted jointly with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Pangasinan Office, the police arrested on April 29.
