Anti-graft seminar held in Pozorrubio

POZORRUBIO -- In a bid to minimize graft and corruption in government and further improve good and effective governance in the local government unit, a seminar was held recently for barangay and LGU officials.

This was disclosed Tuesday by Mayor Artemio Chan who himself attended the two-day seminar conducted by the Office of the Ombudsman through the Anti-Graft and Corruption Office, in cooperation with the municipal government here, last August 14-15 at he Queen Karen Saplan Multi-Purpose Hall.

Chan said that in attendance were members of the Municipal Council, barangay captains, LGU department heads and school heads.

"We felt intensely that there is a need for such a seminar so as to preempt any graft-related or corruption-prone act by any municipal employee or elective official here. We wish our town to be a model in graft-free or corruption-free status," Chan commented.

Municipal Consultant Heriberto A. Bautista said that among the topics discussed by resource speakers from the Office of the Ombudsman were love of God, selfless love and service to the people, stewardship, sanctity of marriage, wisdom of truthfulness, respect for authority and the contents of Republic Acts 6770, 3019, 1379 and Executive Order 292 - all related to the fight against graft and corruption.

Chan said that, with the seminar participants being responsible officials of the town, there is hope that everyone will think twice before committing acts related to graft and corruption.

"It takes strong will power to fight graft and corruption; but it can be done if anyone being enticed will only let this will power prevail," Chan said.

Bautista, who was the master of ceremonies during the affair, pointed out that the seminar participants were "very appreciative" of the undertaking because the seminar "actually focused on reality." RFH
