Cops, mayor intensify campaign v. jueteng

SAN CARLOS CITY -- Members of the police have intensified the campaign against jueteng, an illegal numbers game, following reports that it has resurfaced in Pangasinan.

San Carlos City Police Director Rolando B. Diaz ordered close monitoring of the jueteng operation in the city and to apprehend jueteng collectors and operators who still insist in pursuing the numbers game.

Superintendent Diaz issued the directive in pursuance to the call of Mayor Julian "Jolly" V. Resuello for the policemen to intensify their campaign against jueteng.

"The age-old problem on jueteng has been deeply rooted in the culture of Filipinos including Carleneans but I believe that it takes a lot of political will to curb it," the mayor said.
