Muñoz vows to lead Liga seriously
By Dino R. Zabala

DAGUPAN City Liga ng mga Barangay (Barangay League) president Eric Jose S. Muñoz has vowed to get serious in leading the city's barangay association.

In a board meeting conducted last Thursday afternoon at the conference room of the city museum, Muñoz said he realized it was about time that he concentrate on various problems of each league member.

During the meeting, he clarified that he called for the meeting not because of the newly-organized group of barangay captains but to tell the members that he will now focus on his job as president of the league.

"I called for this meeting to make everyone in the association feel that I am back in the saddle to continue and ready to act and respond to the association's programs, projects and in particular, for the welfare of its membership," the ex-officio councilor said.

He admitted being remiss in holding regular league and general membership meetings, but said "it is high time that he moves on for the sake of the
association."

Among those who attended the board meeting that mustered a quorum included Barangay Chairmen Lino Fernandez-Lucao; Roberto Abalos-Pogo Grande; Teody Macasieb-Barangay IV; Luis Santiago Samson, III-Pogo Chico; Noel Melecio- Barangay II and III; and Samuel Guadiz-Mayombo.

Muñoz asked those present in the meeting to air their sentiments and observations and suggest measures to improve the camaraderie in the league.

Samson, who is the league's vice president, said a common problem among the barangay chairmen is the lack of a regular meeting.

Guadiz said, "Whatever shortcomings the league president has done in particular to the non-conduct of meetings should not be repeated."

Macasieb, on the other hand, reiterated that during meetings, whether of the liga or other meetings of the association and especially those called by the city mayor's office, he (Muñoz) should be present and punctual at all times, if only to show his sincerity to the league.

Melecio said aside from his (Muñoz) presence and punctuality, he should also improve his leadership and establish a better relationship with barangay officials.

Fernandez said considering the good performance of Dagupan City Mayor Benjamin S. Lim, the league’s leader should also have the same, especially now that there is a lot of work to do in the barangays in as much as the city fiesta is approaching.

Abalos reminded Muñoz that being an ex-officio member of the City Council, he is the only person whom the barangay chairmen in the city can rely on and represent them in the city legislature.

Among the advices from the members of the league’s board was for Muñoz to initiate the settling of differences with the other barangay chairmen.

"We hope that for every negative impressions or sentiments you hear, especially from the board, these are not destructive against you, but rather constructive, in the sense that you would know where to find its solution being the leader of the association," they advised.

At the end of the gripe session, the board discussed various projects and activities for the city fiesta.
