Anti-bank robbery task force created
THE PANGASINAN Provincial Police Office (PPPO) has formed another task force due to a series of robbery-holdups that has occurred in the past months.
Provincial Police-community Relation Officer Supt. Ricardo Tamayo said the task force was organized to respond to crimes, like bank and pawnshop robberies, and be a guidance group to the different police stations.
The PPPO has required police stations in highly urbanized areas where there is a history of robberies to conduct field exercises on readiness and alertness.
Tamayo brushed aside speculations that the task force would simply be a group in paper only, saying the task force would be a working group which would give positive results in the anti-criminality campaign of the provincial police.
The Anti-Bank Robbery Task Force is headed by Supt. Ed Basbas, deputy police director for operations, with Supt. Magno, head of the special operations group, as task force assistant head, and intelligence officer Supt. Rayland Malenab, Chief Insp. Elimer Casupang and Tamayo as members.
"The task force will not just be in paper but will be undertaking dry runs, field exercises... in the local police stations, where we will create a simulation of events to know the reaction of our local policemen when there is a reported crime of bank robbery," he said.
Tamayo said they have coordinated with owners and managers of banks for the installation of alarm systems and to come up with a list of the names of security guards for proper and quicker coordination.
He said there are no reported cases of kidnapping in recent months, except one case in Labrador, wherein the victim was rescued safe and unhurt by the Labrador and Sual police.
The suspect demanded a P500,000 ransom.
He said the suspect escaped because the concern of the responding policemen was the safety of the victim. Nevertheless, a kidnapping charge has been filed against the suspect since his identity is already known.
The suspect was also responsible for carting away the P25,000 necklace of the victim's grandfather a few weeks ago.
