San Carlos bags 2 health awards

SAN CARLOS CITY -- The San Carlos City Health Office won two special citations for carrying out an effective mass-based health awareness program.

The citations, given by the regional office of the Department of Health (DOH), were conferred during the recent regional awarding ceremonies for health development centers in the Ilocos region at the Oasis Country Resort in San Fernando City, La Union.

San Carlos City was cited for its Garantisadong Pangmatanda Program and the Anti-Smoking Program. Dr. Pablo P. Mondok III, City Health Officer II, said the city was recognized for its painstaking effort in creating awareness among the people about the value of clean and healthy living.

During the award rites, Dr. Jimuel Cardenas, OIC-Asst. Regional Director, gave the welcome and opening remarks. Dr. Gwendolyn Rose A. Biteng, OIC-Chief, Health Operations, gave an overview of the awards. La Union Governor Victor F. Ortega was also around to give a short message.

Dr. Eduardo Janairo, Regional Director, did the introduction of the guest of honor and speaker, Dr. Margarita Galon, MPH and undersecretary of DOH. Governor Ferdinand R. Marcos II of Ilocos Norte also gave a message. The awarding of winners was initiated by Galon and Janairo.

For the Kristal awards, the winning province was Pangasinan, while San Fernando City won the city category. Rosales and Burgos, Pangasinan emerged the victorious municipalities.

For the Best Healthy Lifestyle Awards, the winning province was La Union; San Fernando City won in the city category and Rosario, La Union won in the municipality category.

Cabugao, Ilocos Sur was also cited for its Oplan Clean Living Program, San Juan, La Union for its diabetes campaign and Marcial Teodoro won as Smoking Quitter of the year.

The Most Outstanding Performer-EPI Program was San Fernando City, Basista, Pangasinan; Dingras, Ilocos Norte and San Jacinto, Pangasinan.

The Best in Family Planning Program winners were Laoag City, San Fernando City and Urdaneta City.

The Best NTP-DOTS Performer were Dagupan II, San Fernando Citty, Urdaneta City, Paoay, Ilocos Norte; San Emilio, Ilocos Sur; Tagudin, Ilocos Sur; Caba, La Union; Sudipen, La Union; Sison, Pangasinan; Umingan II, Pangasian and Bani II, Pangasinan.

Excellence in Local Health Program went to La Union for its "Oplan Victor," Ilocos Sur for its Provincial Rabies Program, Ilocos Norte for its Health Insurance for the Underprivileged, and Pangasinan for its Family Planning and Reproductive Health.
