Sison expects grand slam national award
PERSONNEL of the Dagupan City detention center hope they can achieve a grand slam award as best city jail and best jail warden nationwide.
It will be the third award in a row should the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) decide to give the citation this year to the local jail and warden Insp. Roque Constantino Sison III.
Sison said they are now preparing to meet the requirements that are within the criteria set by the BJMP central office in the selection of awardees.
“One of these is the maintenance of a regular roll call system among the inmates,” he said.
He pointed out that in past elections, there were reports that some political protagonists had used detainees as goons in threatening their opponents.
Sison said he does not want this to happen in the city and that he wants to maintain their good image.
Other criteria include the improvement of the jail facilities and treatment of detainees.
The jail warden said Mayor Benjamin S. Lim has already approved his request for the renovation of the multi-purpose hall to have a bigger visitors’ area and additional detention cells.
He said the number of inmates is more than double the maximum capacity of the jail.
Sison pointed out that if the detainees feel they are treated well, this would lessen the anxiety that they feel while being away from their respective families.
“In addition to it, the inmates are allowed to engage in some beautification projects inside jail compound and some livelihood projects so their minds would be deviated from thinking of something bad,” he said. FPM
