Int'l cyclist favors local cyclists to foreigners
By Fred P. Macaraeg

INTERNATIONAL cyclist Jazy Garcia expressed pride over the fame and strength of Filipino cyclists.

He said while foreign cyclists might be stronger but he would still go for the Pinoy pedal pushers.

Garcia, son of Tour of Luzon king Jesus Garcia Jr., joined the Olympics twice, representing Guam. His foundation has also been sponsoring road races in Guam.

"There are many Pangasinenses who want to be known in the cycling world so I am giving full support to them," he said.

The son of the Pangasinan cycling legend issued this statement following the 8th Mapandan Invitational Cycling Classic on March 25 wherein several Philippine cycling giants participated.

The elder Garcia was the race director of the Mapandan cycling tilt.

Tour Pilipinas champion Arnel Quirimit expressed gratitude to the younger Garcia for the support he is giving to Pangasinense pedalists, especially to him.

Quirimit vowed to pay back Garcia's support by giving honor to Pangasinan, being a member of the Philippine cycling team.

Garcia, in a phone talk with Quirimit through the courtesy of radio station dzSD, said he would continue supporting the Tour Pilipinas champ.

Moreover, the Olympic racer advised tyro-cyclists not to be easily discouraged.

"What is needed is determination. They should practice constantly and have proper nutrition to maintain a good health," he said.

Garcia said young cyclists should always join competitions and consider it as simply a fun.

"Even if you end last in the race, it is just okay," he said.
