Bautista beaten up, killed: NBI

THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said Katherine Bautista, a Filipino domestic helper from Lebanon who was allegedly maltreated by her employer, died of a head fracture caused by clubbing and not from a fall as earlier stated in autopsy report from Lebanon.

NBI medico legal officer Alvin David said the blood that enveloped her brain aside from bruises and contusions in some parts of her body indicate that Bautista, 22, a resident of Barangay Caloocan Sur in Binmaley town, fought with her employer before she was killed.

David said the Lebanon pathologist, who earlier conducted an autopsy, should explain his findings showing Bautista sustained the brain hemorrhage after she fell from a building while trying to escape from her employer.

But she was purportedly found without contusions on the body.

Roberto had sought the intervention of authorities, especially President Arroyo, in determining the cause of death of her daughter. He also asked the President to have Jojo Sunga of the Philippine Embassy in Lebanon back to the country and answer for the death of her daughter.

The father said prior to her death, they had learned of the maltreatment her daughter had from her employer through text messages she sent to her sisters and brothers.

"She (victim) was being pushed downstairs, thrown spoons and forks and frequently, she had not been allowed to eat," Roberto said.

Aside from the filing of charges against the victim's employer, David advised Bautista's parents to also file a complaint against the head and personnel of the Philippine Embassy in Lebanon for taking the victim back to her male employer.

The wife of her employer purportedly helped Bautista escaped and took her to the Philippine Embassy but she was taken back to her employer. FPM
