Be vigilant, DTI urges consumers

THE most protected consumers are the vigilant consumers, according to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

"We cannot always be there with you to watch every move of the retailers, the businessmen who are equally important in our economy as the consumers," said Jaime P. Lucas, DTI provincial director.

In urging the public to be vigilant, he said at times there are some unscrupulous businessmen in Dagupan City and in Pangasinan, in general, who take advantage of the people, especially during times of emergency, like rainy season and flood.

"We have to work together. We set the consumer network. There are 18 government agencies helping the consumers, without necessarily sacrificing the right of the retailers and businessmen," Lucas said.

He said those in the business sector are equally important to the economy of an area and the country.

"In fact, they are the ones generating the bulk of our income," he said.

The DTI provincial director, however, said if the consumers think they hadve been shortchanged, they should report it to the agency. FPM
